The Wabanaki Center Recognizes the Contributions
of Ted N. Mitchell, Director Emeritus,
Wednesday, September 13, 2006 - (Orono)

The Wabanaki Center hosted a recognition dinner to honor Director Emeritus, Ted N. Mitchell (Penobscot) and his contributions to Native American education at the University of Maine. Over 70 friends, family, students and alumni crowded the McIntire Room at the Buchanan Alumni House to pay special tribute to Ted's legacy here at the University. The event provided an opportunity for all guests to speak, tell a story, or simply say "thank you" to Ted.

The idea for the event arose when Wabanaki Center staff realized that at every gathering that the Center had, which involved Native alumni, Ted was always mentioned fondly, as well as his contributions to the success of these particular students and alums. The staff at the Center realized the importance in providing an opportunity for students and alum to thank Ted in person, and for Ted to hear what an incredible impact he has had on the lives of so many Native students.
